"We're hoping people look forward to this on Friday nights," Township Manager Walt Miller said this spring, describing a market that had spent years as a Wednesday-afternoon errand. His remarks, reported by South Jersey Media in May, framed the new format as a place where people could "eat there, make a purchase or just come to listen to music, meet neighbors and have fun."
Five Fridays are left in that experiment. The changes that made it possible also explain why the rest of Marlton's late-October calendar now sits on or near East Main Street. Two of the season's biggest community events take place one day apart, Friday evening and Saturday afternoon, and both are in the village.
From Evesboro Downs on a Wednesday to the Kain Park gazebo on a Friday
The township announced the change on April 22, 2026. The Marlton Farmers Market became the Friday Night Farmers Market & Street Festival, and the township said it was turning the market into a "stay-and-play" destination. Nearly every basic detail of the market changed.
| The old market | The 2026 market | |
|---|---|---|
| Location | Evesboro Downs Park | Kain Park, E. Main St. & S. Locust Ave. |
| Day and time | Wednesday afternoons | Fridays, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. |
| Season | Summer | Fall, Sept. 4 through Nov. 20 |
| Format | Farmers market | Farmers, plus live music, food trucks, family activities and local merchants |
The township gave a weather reason first. A fall season meant "no more cancellations due to extreme heat or sudden severe summer thunderstorms." Miller added a second goal at an April council meeting, also reported by South Jersey Media. "Our goal is to expand the number of vendors there, including the number of farmers (and food trucks) that will be able to come and sell products," he said.
The same report noted that local growers remain "the cornerstone of the market," with late-summer harvests in August and September and fall crops in October and November. The street-festival format added bands and DJs, children's activities, gourmet food options and vendors selling alcohol.
Why the corner of Main and Locust works for this
The township lists Kain Park at 40 South Locust Avenue at Main Street, with a gazebo and an open field. The South Jersey Media report calls the gazebo "iconic" and notes the park already serves as the children's hub during the annual Harvest Fest. The ground has a longer history too. An early Marlton photo caption from the Evesham Historical Society places the Benjamin Kain Farm at South Locust and Main Street.
A market at Evesboro Downs was a trip to a park. A market at Kain Park sits in the village, so a Friday visit can easily include stops along East Main Street. Mayor Jaclyn Veasy described the goal in the township's statement as "creating a true 'stay-and-play' destination where families and neighbors can kick off their weekends."
The street setup is simple. South Locust Avenue closes to traffic during market hours and Main Street stays open. Parking is available in three municipal lots along Main Street and at nearby shopping centers.
What's left on the calendar, Oct. 16 through Nov. 20
Market Fridays are only part of the schedule. Several other township events fall in the same stretch, most of them on East Main Street too.
- Friday, Oct. 16, 6 to 8 p.m. The Evesham Police Trunk or Treat takes place at Savich Field, 510 E. Main Street, with a rain date of Saturday, Oct. 17. There's no market that Friday.
- Saturday, Oct. 17, 10 a.m. The Evesham Senior Citizen Expo is at the Gibson House Community Center, 535 E. Main St., according to the Marlton Business Association calendar.
- Friday, Oct. 23, 5 to 8 p.m. The market is back at Kain Park.
- Saturday, Oct. 24, 1 to 5 p.m. The second-annual Italian American Heritage Street Festival runs along Cooper Avenue between Main Street and Route 70.
- Friday, Oct. 30, 5 to 8 p.m. This is the last market before Halloween.
- Fridays, Nov. 6, Nov. 13 and Nov. 20, 5 to 8 p.m. These are the final three markets. The series ends Nov. 20.
There's one exception to the East Main Street pattern. The township's youth-group scarecrow contest, run with local Girl Scouts, will be on display at the Promenade at Sagemore on Route 73 from Oct. 17 to Oct. 31. Registration closes Oct. 15.
Oct. 23 and 24 are the weekend everything overlaps
The weekend of Oct. 23 and 24 shows the effect of the move most clearly. On Friday night, the market fills the Kain Park corner with farm stands, food trucks and live music until 8 p.m. On Saturday afternoon, Cooper Avenue becomes the Italian American Heritage Street Festival. The township says it will feature food trucks, bakers and dessert tables, Italian-themed merchandise vendors, live music, dancing and a wine tasting.
The festival has been adjusted since its first year. In its announcement, the township said attendee feedback from last year shaped the 2026 version. The festival now starts later and runs longer, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The township credits two partners, the Marlton Business Association and Wineworks. Vendors who fit the theme can still apply through the township's posting, and questions go to [email protected].
Nene's Italian Market & Catering is at 42 E. Main Street, on the Main Street and Cooper Avenue corner where the festival meets the village. It's a deli and market serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, with sandwiches, wraps, salads, entrees and catering on its menu. Visitors staying from Friday's market into Saturday's festival will find it right at the intersection of the two events.
Planning a Friday at Kain Park
The May South Jersey Media report included an Aug. 28 kickoff, but the township's final schedule opened the season on Sept. 4. Every market night since then has followed the same basic routine.
- Hours run 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. That lets you go after work. In November the market will run mostly after sunset, so dress for a cooler evening.
- South Locust Avenue is closed and Main Street is open. Drivers heading through the village can still use Main.
- Parking is in the municipal lots on Main Street and at nearby shopping centers. The township lists these as the parking options.
- Expect both late-summer and fall crops. The township's April announcement promised local farmers with both summer and fall crops, plus live music, food trucks, family activities and local merchants.
- Check the calendar before you go. Market Fridays aren't every Friday. Oct. 16 is Trunk or Treat night at Savich Field, and the market returns Oct. 23.
The township moved the market to protect it from summer heat and storms and to make room for more vendors. The result is that Marlton's fall evenings now gather on the same few blocks of East Main Street, from the Kain Park gazebo to the Cooper Avenue corner and on to Savich Field. The last market of 2026 is Friday, Nov. 20, at 5 p.m.
